Invisalign FAQ
You may experience some discomfort during the first few days of wearing a new set of aligners. However, this is typically mild and goes away quickly. You will quickly learn what to expect with each new tray. Many patients minimize the discomfort by putting in new trays at bedtime so they sleep through the initial discomfort.
You should remove your aligners before eating or drinking anything other than water. This is because food and beverages can stain or damage the aligners.
You need to visit us every six weeks so we can monitor your progress and to provide you your next set of aligners.
Invisalign must be worn for 20 to 22 hours every day. You should only be removing your trays during meals, snacks, and cleanings. Compliance is a major issue with Invisalign and can extend the length of treatment.
With Invisalign, you have the freedom to use or not use your aligners every day. However, leaving off the trays for more than an hour at a time will impede your treatment progress. The more you interfere with the movement of your teeth by taking your trays out, the next set of aligners will be negatively affected.
Attachments are small bits of composite temporarily bonded to some of your teeth to anchor the Invisalign trays. Not every patient needs attachments, but they are fairly common and can help make your treatment work efficiently and effectively.
All types of braces and Invisalign require a retainer after treatment. Even once your teeth and roots are shifted into their new positions, their final locations must be reinforced for a long time afterward. Invisalign retainers are just as discreet as the system itself to keep your newly straightened smile without disruption. Permanent wear is usually recommended for the first few months after treatment, followed by nighttime wear for months or years afterward.
The typical price of Invisalign treatment ranges from $3,000 to $7,000. The exact amount depends on how complex the case is, how many trays are needed, and other factors. However, there are many affordable methods available for financing the treatment.
