Digital X ray
- Digital X-rays are the latest technology used in Dentistry and Medicine.
- Digital X-rays or digital radiography has become a much more efficient, cost effective, and an even safer method of producing diagnostic images.
- While traditional X-rays are considered safe, digital X-rays produce much less radiation than traditional.
- Digital X-rays also provide a much clearer and more precise images resulting in better interpretation and diagnostics.
What is Digital X ray?
Dental X-rays have traditionally been used to detect problems in teeth and in the jaw bone. We at BrightCraft Dental do not take X-rays unnecessarily. Before deciding to take X-rays, we usually assess the value of the information that the x-ray will yield. We have made an investment to incorporate Digital X-rays for both small intraoral X-rays and the whole mouth CBCT scan.
In the Digital X-rays technology, the X-Ray film is replaced with a sensor (either a plate or a “video” sensor). These are linked to either a laser scanner or directly to the computer. In both cases the image is processed by the computer and displayed on the screen.
The most important benefits of Digital X-ray
- In digital X ray technology, the amount of x-ray dosage is significantly lower than traditional X-rays. Dosage reduction of up to 80% is achievable. As processing errors are reduced, repeat X-rays are less likely and the quality of the X-rays are more consistent. Reduction in processing time means that we can often discuss our findings with you at your first visit.
- Our digital radiography system provides excellent images which are complemented by the intra-oral camera picture on the computer monitor which will allow you to see exactly what we see to help you understand the treatment we recommend.
- In addition, digital radiographs reveal smallest hidden areas of decay between teeth or below existing restorations (fillings), tooth infections, gum (periodontal) disease, abscesses or cysts, developmental abnormalities and tumors that cannot be detected with only a visual dental examination.
- Digital radiographs can be viewed instantly on any computer screen, manipulated to enhance contrast and detail, and transmitted electronically to specialists without quality loss.
- Digital dental images are stored easily in electronic patient records and, instantly sent to insurance companies, referring dentists or consultants, often eliminating or reducing treatment disruption and leading to faster communication.
