Job Description
Overview
We are a national federal and commercial construction seeking a dedicated Site Safety & Health Officer (SSHO) to lead the implementation of safety protocols across our project sites. This role ensures compliance with all site-specific Health and Safety Plans (HASP), OSHA regulations, and job hazard analyses (JHAs). The ideal candidate will bring a hands-on, proactive approach to safety management and serve as a trusted safety advisor to our field teams.
Key Responsibilities
Implement and enforce safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA, project HASPs, and corporate standards.
Conduct regular safety audits, risk assessments, and jobsite inspections to identify and eliminate hazards.
Lead daily and weekly safety meetings, tool talks, and training sessions to reinforce a culture of safety.
Review JHAs for accuracy and ensure they are understood and followed by all site personnel.
Collaborate with project managers, superintendents, and subcontractors to ensure safety is embedded in every stage of construction.
Maintain detailed documentation of inspections, incident reports, near-misses, and safety meetings.
Serve as the primary site liaison for all safety-related matters during audits or inspections.
Stay current on federal, state, and local safety regulations and industry best practices.
Required Skills & Qualifications
In-depth understanding of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 and construction industry safety regulations.
Proven ability to identify, assess, and mitigate risks on active construction sites.
Strong communication and training skills for educating field teams and stakeholders.
Ability to build positive, effective relationships across trades and project teams.
High attention to detail and a proactive approach to issue resolution.
Familiarity with construction sequencing, methods, and terminology.
Proficiency in safety documentation and reporting.
Minimum Requirements
5+ years of experience in construction safety or related field.
OSHA 30 certification (OSHA 500/510 preferred).
First Aid/CPR certified.
Valid Real ID and the ability to pass a comprehensive background check.
Willingness to travel to project sites as required.
